About the author

Charles Sampson

Seventh son of the late Plummer and Lurline Sampson. Continuous discussions around the dinner table at 115 Melon Street in Laurel, MS, which began before he entered undergraduate school, serve as a starting point for the book. Charles has learned that troubles deepen character, and the ripest fruit grows against the most formidable wall.

The reason that inspired you to come up with the book: Entry to and successful completion of college, life as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force, completion of the doctorate at 28 years of age, encouragement by my parents, spouse, siblings, and colleagues in the Academy coupled with reflections of lived experiences caused me to put pen to paper after retirement. Most importantly, I want my fifth and subsequent generation family members to have a clear view of their past, my perspective on our past, and how they can move beyond the places that appear to hold them back.
